The Stûv 21 uses the simple physical principle of natural convection: the air circulates through the double wall of the stove, gathers heat, rises and emerges through the special vents provided. Part of the hot air can also be directed to a neighbouring room, hence there is no need for a fan in the basic configuration. The air required for combustion sweeps over the inside of the window, preventing the formation of soot deposit.
The fire is designed with a retractable lifting door or "guillotine door" are designed to be integrated into the building. The glass door slides upwards and disappears behind the masonry; the stove then operates as an open fire. With the glass door lowered, it operates with an excellent heat output in complete safety. Its exceptionally large glass door provides a perfect view of the fire.
