Do I Need My Chimney Swept?

31 August 2016 09:49

"Do I need my chimney swept?" is a question that we are asked regularly here at Bradley Stoves. We would recommend that you have your chimney swept at least once a year. However, if you use your stove very regularly you should think about having it cleaned more often. Cleaning your chimney can do a lot to protect your home and health, but why is that?

Reasons For Having Your Chimney Swept

As use your stove, the fuel that you burn will start to block up your chimney.

It is very important to get the blockages cleared so that smoke and dangerous fumes, like carbon monoxide, can get out. If smoke can't get out the chimney, it could fill up your room causing damage to your possessions and damage your lungs if inhaled. If dangerous fumes can't get out due to a blockage, it too will start to fill up the room. Inhaling these fumes will cause damage to your health or could even be fatal.

If you use your stove a lot, you could get a build up of Creosote in your chimney. Creosote is a highly flammable substance that is created when you burn wood. Burning different types of wood creates different amounts of Creosote. Pine wood is known to build it up quite quickly. Creosote can cause chimney fires if you don't get it cleaned out.

What we offer

We are currently offering our chimney sweeping at a special offer of £85 reduced from £100. Please contact us if you want to book in a sweep.

Cleaning a chimney takes about 45 minutes from start to finish, possibly a longer or shorter time depending in your flue and how blocked up the chimney is. A chimney needs to be cleaned with the correct tools and just using a vacuum cleaner would not be sufficient.
